David and Meredith offer 8 pre-recorded curriculum videos that you can watch at your own pace. Each session will explore one of the seven virtues: Calm, Care, Confidence, Service, Humility, Patience, and Self-Awareness, while developing the characters and rules in our super-fun pirate game.

The sessions will be 20-25 minutes of lighthearted exploration, meaningful lessons, and fun! Camp will also include PDF missions for your camper, audio recordings of the PDFs and rules to the Pirate Game.

Dreadful Dave and Mizzen Merry at the helm!

Pirates are fun! Pirates wear whatever is around. They don’t mind getting dirty. They talk funny. They enjoy the simple things. They are ridiculous...

Pirates celebrate their flaws. Let’s forgive ourselves for our faults and daily mistakes (because the truth is, much of our future strengths and skills come out of our ‘failures’ - you know this is true). Plus we learn empathy, resilience, compassion and forgiveness along the way!

Pirates make the most of hard times. They are resilient. They are pragmatic. They are diverse. They are all misfits from all walks of life and all nationalities. The common ground is they happen to be on the same ship. Storms, battles, disease, whales - stuff happens. And if we want our kids to learn anything, it is that our true character shines when we meet hard times. Maybe a sense of fun isn’t so bad?

Kid Inspired Fun

Perfect for “staycation” summers or holidays. Your child will be at the helm of a new role-playing self-discovery, action-packed storytelling game that will be barrels o’ fun for the whole family.

Gifts of Difference

The pirate theme celebrates heritage, lineage, and culture for what they uniquely bring to the crew and mission. The camp is built on “many hands” where a diversity of skills, backgrounds, and personal challenges will help find the treasure.

Share with the Whole Family

The Camp includes an ongoing storytelling game that can be played with a family or group of friends. The rules and play will honor social distancing rules and remote play can be integrated, but live, in-person play is encouraged.

FAQ

CAN MY CHILD DO THE CAMP COMPLETELY ON HER OWN?

Your child can watch the videos and complete the practice worksheets & projects on her own, however we recommend parent overview of the child's participation in the course. Some of the exercises ask the child to be introspective and self-aware, in ways that may be new to them. Children may want or need parent-engagement in this process. Additionally there are "walks" and adventures that will need family-appropriate boundary & limit setting. Lastly, there will be practice worksheets to print and supplies to gather, which may necessitate parent support.

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT FOR THIS CAMP?

Each weekly video lesson is around 45 minutes long. There is one practice assignment each week which we estimate could take anywhere from 20 minutes to two hours depending on how thorough your child wishes to be. There are also “Advanced Camper” exercises that are more comprehensive and could take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours.

DOES MY CHILD NEED TO LISTEN TO THE SPARKLE STORIES IN ORDER TO JOIN THE CAMP?

No. The stories are the inspiration behind the camps and demonstrate the lessons in the camp, but it is not necessary for your child to know the stories in order to benefit from the lessons. However - throughout the camp, the trainers reference key moments in the stories for context and as examples. If your child is unfamiliar with Sparkle Stories, you can enjoy an extended 30 day free trial here.

DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BE ABLE TO READ & WRITE TO PARTICIPATE?

Not at all. All three camps are a combination of videos, practice worksheets, and in the case of the Interactive camp, live "trainings." The worksheets were created with learning differences in mind and can be completed with writing, drawing, or both. As long as parents or caregivers are willing to read instructions out loud, you'll be set!
